See a Spellbinding Classic With Faith Healer Tickets

Playwright Brian Friels’ haunting, ever-shifting masterpiece Faith Healer has captivated audiences since opening on Broadway 45 years ago, and now it returns to London for a strictly limited season at Lyric Hammersmith theatre.

This tale of truth, mythology and the power of belief, told through the story of travelling healer and “miracle worker” Francis Hardy, remains as spellbinding now as it did in 1979. With a small cast and compelling story, book now to see a fantastic 20th century classic.

What is Faith Healer about?

The Fantastic Francis Hardy is travelling through every remote, lonely and hopeful village in Ireland, Wales and Scotland. For one night only, he is promising miracle cures for the ailing, sick and suffering. Showman and fraud he may be, but the allure of the impossible is irresistible to those who are most desperate.

Behind the shapeshifting masks, Frank is in conflict of his own: with his wife Grace and manager Teddy. As the three recount their lives together, a well of dissident, fractured memories is uncovered in Brian Friel’s “masterpiece” (The Guardian).

A Contemporary 20th Century Classic

Faith Healer is one of Olivier and Tony Award winner Brian Friel’s most famous plays which premiered on Broadway back in 1979. The prolific Irish writer’s other works include Translations and Dancing at Lughnasa, but the story of Frank Hardy remains an audience and critical favourite thanks to its compelling unreliable narrator that raises more questions than are answered.

Cast and Creatives

This new revival is directed by the Lyric Hammersmith’s Artistic Director Rachel O’Riordan. Riordan has earned acclaim during her tenure at the Lyric with her work on Iphigenia in Splott and Tanika Gupta’s new version of A Doll’s House

Casting is to be confirmed, for all three roles in this intimate play.
