Guys and Dolls Tickets

Phoenix Theatre

The Chichester Festival Theatre’s Guys and Dolls transfered from the Savoy Theatre to the Phoenix, following the departure of Bend it Like Beckham. Guys and Dolls is the classic 1950s musical that features much-loved numbers such as ‘Luck be a Lady’, ‘If I Were a Bell’ and ‘Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat’.

Gordon Greenberg’s hugely successful revival of the 1950s classic, Guys and Dolls, danced into the Phoenix Theatre after a critically acclaimed run at the Savoy. The musical has also embarked on a simultaneous tour of the UK. Receiving abundant praise at the Chichester Festival Theatre, Guys and Dolls rolled into the West End in 2015, running there until summer 2016.

Guys and Dolls follows desperate gambler Nathan Detroit and his frustrated fiancée of fourteen years, Miss Adelaide. Detroit runs an illicit dice game, unbeknownst to Adelaide who performs risqué numbers at a club. Desperate for money, and equally desperate not to make Adelaide aware of his misfortune, Detroit bets fellow gambler Sky Masterson one thousand dollars to take a doll of his choice out. Accepting the bet, Masterson thinks he has an easy deal – until it is discovered that the doll of choice happens to be the pious and uptight Sergeant of the Salvation Army, Sarah Brown.

Written by Joe Swerling and Abe Burrows, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, Guys and Dolls has many well-known musical numbers, including ‘Luck be a Lady’, ‘Bushel and a Peck’, ‘If I Were a Bell’, ‘Adelaide’s Lament’ and, of course, the toe-tapping ‘Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat’. Greenberg’s revived production also included choreography by Andrew Wright and Carlos Acosta, with designs by Peter McKintosh and sound by Paul Groothius.

Casting for the Phoenix transfer stared multiple Olivier Award-winning actress Samantha Spiro (Hello Dolly, Merrily We Roll Along) as Miss Adelaide and Richard Kind (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) as Nathan Detroit. Oliver Tompsett (Wicked, Rock of Ages) has taken over from Jamie Parker as Sky Masterson, whilst Siubhan Harrison and Gavin Spokes reprise their roles as Sarah Brown and Nicely Nicely Johnson. With the transfer to the Phoenix, Guys and Dolls took London by storm, breathing classic air back into the West End.

Towards the end of its run, Hollywood star Rebel Wilson joined the cast of Guys and Dolls at the Phoenix Theatre for a limited period between Tuesday 28th June until Sunday 21st August 2016, playing the part of Miss Adelaide, giving audiences the opportunity to see such a big star on stage in London. Speaking on her West End debut, Rebel Wilson commented that she was "delighted to be making my West End debut in Guys & Dolls and to be playing such an iconic role as 'Miss Adelaide' is truly an honor. Hopefully I crush it....but you'll have to come and see me to find out!’.
